La victoire du « non » aurait également des conséquences sociales et politiques en France. Ce sera une sanction pour la droite, qui s’imagine déjà continuer son train d’enfer de réformes libérales d’ici la prochaine élection présidentielle. Si le « non » gagne, Chirac et son Assemblée nationale réactionnaire devront laisser la place. Mais ce serait également un avertissement pour la direction du PS qui nous demande d’attendre et de ne pas nous tromper de scrutin. Pour qu’une autre Europe soit possible, il faut qu’une autre gauche le soit également.
A victory for the 'no' must also have social and political consequences in France. This will entail punishing the Right who have imagined they will continue their hellish programme of liberal reforms through the next presidential election. If the no wins, Chirac and his reactionary national assembly will be obliged to depart. But this is also a message regarding the direction of the Socialist party who have been asking us for patience and not to confuse the referendum with a party election. If another Europe is to be possible, another Left is equally necessary.
